What changes between French and German
The differences that decide whether a translation reads as written by a person.

Word orderFrench is subject-verb-object; German is verb-second in main clauses, verb-final in subordinate clauses. Sentences are rebuilt, not mapped word for word, and long sentences are where a weak translator loses the thread.
How politeness is markedGerman separates 'du' (familiar, singular), 'ihr' (familiar, plural) and 'Sie' (polite, always capitalised, singular and plural). Business and official writing uses 'Sie' unless someone has offered 'du'.
Formality in FrenchFrench uses 'tu' with friends, family and children and 'vous' with everyone else and with any group. Written French to a stranger is 'vous' by default, and moving to 'tu' is a decision people make explicitly.
Where translation into German goes wrong
Three things German readers notice at once, and a machine has to be told about.
Capitalised nouns
All nouns are capitalised, which changes how a sentence looks; 'sie' (she, they) and 'Sie' (you, polite) differ only by that capital.
Four cases
Four cases change article and adjective endings ('der', 'den', 'dem', 'des'); a wrong case is immediately visible to a German reader.
Compound nouns
German builds long compound nouns ('Kundendatenschutzrichtlinie') where English uses a phrase; a translator has to decide when to join words.
What has to be read correctly in the French first

One past tense for two
French uses the same tense for what English splits into simple past and present perfect, so tense choice in English is a judgement call.
Two ways to negate
Negation wraps the verb ('ne… pas') and informal French drops the 'ne'; both are correct and a translator has to recognise both.

Should I translate into German as Sie or du?
